![]() How do I know because i researched it and found out my father-in-laws would not be able to handle it. A last note.if you ever get into one of those no-till all in one combo units that are actually really cool but cost like 5000-7000$.those things weigh like 2500+lbs and a smaller tractor would not be able to lift it on it's 3pt hitch. For me.if a day comes where my father-in-law for some reason will not let me use his tractor and I had to get my own.id rather save and buy something similar in size or bigger, than to buy something smaller. Again, this all greatly depends if you can get this tractor through the woods to the plot. ![]() If you will only be planting clover and just maintaining that clover.and then replanting it every 4-5 years than a smaller tractor or UTV would be fine but if you plan on working the ground every year to plant things like brassica, corn, soybeans or any other annual than bigger is better. My plots are about 2 acres a piece and I could get by with a smaller tractor but my father-in-law has a 5 acre field and that already takes a long time to brush hog, till, disc.etc let alone if we had a smaller tractor. We use 6ft implements and it still takes a good amount of time to do 1-2 acre plots let alone if you ever plan on expanding them. ![]() We were originally looking into getting a 30hp tractor. When we first got it, I thought it was HUGE and unnecessary. It has a category 2 hitch and lifts ~2000lbs in the bucket and 3pt hitch. It is a 52hp tractor that is not exactly fullsize but nor is it a compact. ![]() Everyone I spoke with said, as long as you can get the tractor to the plot, then bigger is ALWAYS better and they were right! We ended up getting a Kubota mx5200. You are forgetting one thing.how hard are the plots to get to AND will you use this tractor for anything else (maybe around your house). My father-in-law and I were in your shoes 3 years ago when we decided to buy a tractor. ![]()
